Abstract

This paper has two main purposes. The first is to analyse the concept of Rabbani based on the scholars’ interpretation of verse 32, surah al-Baqarah. The second is to summarize the concept of Rabbani in research framework. In this paper, the concept of Rabbani refers to a concept that is formed based on the al-Qur’an and al-Sunnah as sources. In fact, the objective of this wahyu-based concept is makrifatullah, that is to know Allah SWT. Islamic epistemology emphasises that knowledge comes from Allah SWT and that it is formed from two Islamic sources, namely al-Qur’an and al-Sunnah. This is in tandem with the meaning of verse 32, surah al-Baqarah. In research, knowledge forms the basis for research debates and discussion. This indicates that research that is related to knowledge, is indirectly related to the giver of knowledge, that is Allah SWT. If this view is accepted by the Muslim researchers, then they will have to acculturate the concept of Rabbani in their research framework. The question is what does verse 32 of surah al-Baqarah reveal about the Rabbani concept? How do we acculturate this concept in our research framework? This paper seeks to answer both questions by analysing several literatures textually. For the first question, seven main elements on the Rabbani concept were extracted from verse 32, surah al-Baqarah. Five descriptions of the concept, pertaining to research framework, were provided to answer the second question.
