Abstract

While marriages provide many advantages and benefits, the construction is seen to be increasingly difficult especially when it comes to aspects of spending. There are many current studies that debate the issue and conclude that the rate of marriage of young Muslims in Islam is high and constantly increasing. As Malaysia has a multi-racial society, the main objective of this study is to compare Muslim and non-Muslim marriage expenses. In addition, this study also aims to determine the financial resources used to finance married couples who are married at a young age regardless of whether Muslim or non-Muslim. Accordingly, a questionnaire was used as a research instrument to obtain the required data. Using snowballs sampling technique, this study only involves male respondents (Muslim = 115; Non Muslims = 121) who are married in 2017 around Kuala Lumpur and Selangor. Through descriptive analysis, the study found that Muslim and non-Muslim marriage expenses as a whole were high. However, the average value of Muslim marriage spending is lower than non Muslims. Some suggestions are also highlighted at the end of the study section for reference of future studies.
