WAKAF LAND DEVELOPMENT METHODS BY ISLAMIC RELIGION AND PERAK MELAYU PERAK (MAIPK)

Abstract

Wakaf land is a valuable treasure for Muslims. In Malaysia, many wakaf lands have not been developed by the State Islamic Religious Council (MAIN) as the waqf trustee. There are several methods of development that have been discussed by previous researchers on wakaf land. Therefore, this study aims to look at the method of development of wakaf properties carried out by the Islamic Religious and Customs Malay (MAIPk) Council. The study was conducted using a Volume: 2 Issue: 4 [June, 2017]pp.01-10] Journal of Islamic, Social, Economicsand Development eISSN: 0128-1755 Journal homepage:www.jised.com 2 qualitative approach. Data were obtained from interviews involving staff involved in the development of waqf properties. Interviews are recorded and transcribed to facilitate analysis. Two problems in the development of wakaf land namely lack of funds and expertise are discussed. These two problems can be overcome through five development methods namely: 1) PropertyOwnership-Control-Ownership, 2) Ownership, 3) Ownership-Owned-Ownership, 4) OwnedOwned Taxes, ) Joint venture. The study found that through these five methods, MAIPk successfully developed waqf properties and increased returns to beneficiaries.
