Abstract

As the third pillar of Islam, Zakat is a mandatory form of charity for Muslims. It is an effective means of aiding the poor and the poor, improving living standards and meeting the essential needs. Zakat's distribution is crucial and its management plays an important role in ensuring an equitable allocation of wealth. In higher education institutions such as University Teknologi Mara (UiTM), Shah Alam, Zakat, Sedekah and Wakaf Unit (ZAWAF) are responsible for its distribution. A qualitative research methodology, supported by interviews, was used to identify and address implementations, challenges and best practices in the distribution of funds to students, emphasizing the importance of addressing financial stress and promoting the fair distribution of Zakat funds. The interview was conducted with the director of ZAWAF and the head of the Distribution Unit and Program. The findings of the research provide valuable insights into current practices and areas of improvement in the distribution of zakat funds, particularly in the context of higher education institutions. It is clear that Zakat plays an important role in reducing the financial stress of students and promoting an equitable distribution of funds. However, challenges in the management and distribution of Zakat must be met to ensure their effective use in improving the community welfare of UiTM Shah Alam.
