Abstract

Selecting a career path is among the most critical life decisions an individual makes. However, the sheer volume of career options often causes significant ambiguity, while mathematics students specifically face limited awareness of viable professional fields. This study addresses the career path selection problem using a Multi-Criteria Decision-Making (MCDM) approach based on the Pythagorean Fuzzy Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (PF-TOPSIS). By integrating Pythagorean Fuzzy Numbers (PFNs) and Pythagorean Fuzzy Weighted Averaging (PFWA) operators alongside a revised closeness index, the model evaluates and ranks potential career alternatives. A panel of final-year mathematics students from UiTM Kelantan Branch served as decision-makers, evaluating four career areas such as Business and Finance, Technology and Innovation, Government, and Industry. The main four key criteria are wage level, job security/stability, job flexibility, and work environment/culture. The analysis demonstrates the significant impact of evaluation criteria on career selection, ultimately identifying Business and Finance as the most preferred career path among the participants. Based on the analysis, Business and Finance ranks first
