Abstract

The digital era has brought significant transformation to Islamic education in Malaysia, particularly through the integration of information and communication technology (ICT) and the expansion of cyber freedom. This study examines the positive impacts and challenges of digitalization and cyber freedom on the preservation of adab (Islamic etiquette) within Islamic education. A qualitative library-based approach was employed by analyzing scholarly journals, government reports, and educational policy documents published between 2018 and 2024. The literature review reveals that digitalization enhances knowledge accessibility, diversifies pedagogical approaches, and strengthens student collaboration. However, major challenges include neglect of proper communication etiquette, the spread of misinformation, social media addiction, and copyright infringement. Findings highlight the necessity for digital ethics modules that integrate Islamic adab principles, along with strengthening media literacy and campus community monitoring. The study implies the need for Islamic education policies that balance cyber freedom with the requirements of adab to nurture a morally upright and technologically literate Muslim generation.
