THE SIGNIFICANCE OF HALALAN THAYYIBAN RESEARCH CENTRE, UNISSA IN RESHAPING THE FUTURE OF HALAL INDUSTRY IN BRUNEI
Abstract
Recognised as an Islamic university, Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA) is well-known for its wide variety of courses, encompassing several fields, all rooted in the teachings of Al-Quran and Sunnah. To better align UNISSA’s development with global shifts, the Bachelor of Halal Science programme under Halalan Thayyiban Research Centre (HTRC) was formally inaugurated during the 7th Mahrajan Hafl al-Takharruj in 2017 by the Pro-Chancellor of UNISSA. With the establishment, it aims to produce proficient experts capable of addressing the challenges faced by the halal industry in Brunei. Therefore, the primary objective of this research is to emphasise the significance of HTRC in setting the foundations for the establishment and dissemination of comprehensive halal knowledge. The quantitative method has been utilised through conducting a survey distributed to the students of Bachelor of Halal Science using questionnaires as the research instrument. The research’s findings indicate that establishing HTRC will aid in the education and training of subsequent generations and provide a platform aside from the government to educate the communities about the significance of the halal industry and lifestyle in Brunei. This, in turn, will aid in positioning Brunei as a prominent ‘Global Halal Hub’, hence promoting economic growth and facilitating the achievement of Brunei Vision 2035.
