Abstract

This study will explore the artistic characteristics of the Chinese Impressionist painter Lin Fengmian, exploring the changes in his paintings and his advocacy of "combining East and West" from the perspective of Lin Fengmian's artistic experience, and analysing his works in terms of subject matter, composition, colours, brushstrokes and other techniques. Through the study of Lin Fengmian's painting art, we can understand the changes of Chinese painting in modern times, and recognise Lin Fengmian's contribution to Chinese art education at that time. More importantly, we need to absorb Lin Fengmian's experience to cultivate Chinese college students and artists to combine with their own national culture, and create oil paintings with national characteristics. The research in this paper combines a literature review and a case study to comprehensively analyse the formation of the artist's painting language and the reasons for it, and our findings provide valuable insights into the cultural fusion of balance and innovation in Chinese painting, for the promotion of cultural exchanges and the development of contemporary society.
