Abstract

Since 2018, the United States has tightened its tariff policy against China and trade frictions have escalated, forcing China to take trade countermeasures. With the actions of the governments on both sides and the changes in the international community and the increasing destabilizing factors in the global environment, China-Us trade and China-Us relations have taken on new features. The New York Times and People's Daily are both representative and influential in their respective domestic and even international communication. Therefore, it is crucial for the two media to interpret the Sino-US trade war from what perspective, viewpoint and way. Based on the explanatory level theory and the frame theory, this study analyzes the content of the reports of the New York Times and the People's Daily on the Sino-US trade war, and then analyzes the differences in the selection of reporting frames caused by the differences in media organizations and cultural differences, and examines the influence of different reporting trends on national image under the cultural differences.
