Abstract

In China calligraphy pedagogy, there is a positive significance in cultivating students' aesthetic, creativity, and overall humanistic qualities. However, many students still lack the necessary sense and skills for aesthetics. This paper aims to investigate the aesthetic significance of Chinese calligraphy pedagogy. It will specifically address two main aspects. Firstly, the potential to perceive and experience aesthetic qualities and secondly, Chinese calligraphy skills that students should acquire in calligraphy pedagogy. This study employs the library research method, involving a comprehensive investigation of relevant literature and scholarly publications. The research findings highlight essential capacities for aesthetic education, emphasizing the significance of skills such as the potential to perceive and experience aesthetic qualities. In addition, proficiency in calligraphy skills that students should acquire encompass multifaceted aspects, including a desire for enhanced aesthetic appreciation, artistic cultivation, innovative thinking, and the development of humanistic literacy. These key elements underscore the nuanced and comprehensive nature of students' aspirations within the realm of calligraphy education at the higher education level. In sum, this study provides a thorough understanding of the aesthetic significance in higher education calligraphy. It offers valuable theoretical and practical insights, paving the way for an enhanced quality of calligraphy education at the high education level. The implications of this research extend to educators and institutions, providing practical guidance for integrating traditional aesthetic values into Chinese calligraphy programs. This study serves as a valuable resource for improving learning experiences in the field. To build on these insights, it is recommended that institutions actively incorporate traditional artistic values into calligraphy curricula. Emphasizing aesthetic development and script style understanding can significantly elevate the overall quality of calligraphy education. Continued research and collaboration are encouraged to adapt pedagogical approaches to evolving educational needs.
