STUDENTS’ PERCEPTION OF USING TEXTRAPOLY IN THE TEACHING OF READING SKILL IN ESL CLASSROOM

Abstract

A sheer volume of studies has demonstrated a link between competency in reading and overall literacy attainment among the L2 learners. From reading a novel to looking at billboard signage, appropriate reading skills are needed to allow a person to interpret and become engrossed with the surrounding. Nonetheless, all too often; the barriers faced by the L2 learners with difficulty reading outweigh their desire to focus on L2 reading materials. Hence, TEXTRAPOLY is designed to augment the L2 learners’ attentiveness in skills of reading. 32 respondents who are in Diploma level were involved in this study. Respondents come from various faculties with different English level of proficiency. Data gathered and analysed discover that respondents have positive attitude towards the use of board game in learning English. It is also found that respondents are more motivated to learn English and they believe that playing games engage them more with the lesson in ESL classroom.
