USING GOOGLE SITES AS AN INNOVATIVE TEACHING METHOD FOR TEACHING E-TOURISM

Abstract

The problem of this research is the lack of interests in reading students using books or physical reading materials in institute, students tend to prefer use gadgets as learning references such video, sounds, animation so that there needs to be innovation of teaching materials developed in accordance with the characteristics of students in order to increase reading interest and motivation in learning. This development research aims to test the qualification of web-based teaching materials by using Google Sites to make it easier for students to find and memorize that will be a reference for learning in informatics subjects. This study aims to produce web-based learning using Google Sites on E-Tourism subjects for students of Diploma in Tourism Management. This type of research uses Research and Development with the development model of Lee and Owens (2004). Data collection techniques employed web developing test using open ended questionnaire. The target of this research is class semester four students of Diploma in Tourism Management at Politeknik METrO Betong, Sarawak. The research produced usage of Google sites-based has been tested for its effectiveness, efficiency, uses, and practicality in improving students learning ability. Some implications and recommendations are also discussed. Validation results from Google site-based teaching material qualifications using custom domains averaged one-on-one testing (individuals) obtained an average result of “very feasible” with score 78.58% by students. From the results of validation and testing that have been done, the qualification of teaching materials based on google site using this alternative platform can be used by students in the learning process.
