Abstract

This paper discusses the attributes of leadership on waste segregation program in Jasin Malacca since 2015-2018. Through the campaign of waste segregation initiated by SWCorp on 1st September 2011 (Act 672), there have been many efforts focusing on the community involvement to segregate waste. Nevertheless, more ventures needed by the community leaders on how to lead, guide and motivate the community members towards improvement of Recycling, Reuse and Reduce programs (3R). A total of 400 questionnaires were distributed to 10 resident’s housing area in Jasin, Malacca and 8 interviews were conducted with the community leaders to understand their challenges in promoting solid waste segregation. The data were then analysed through the SPSS method. The result obtained shows that more efforts need to be done by the community leaders in terms of planning, organizing and sourcing budgets for programs. From the result, similar study will be replicated to the other districts in Malacca in order to discover new approach for the community leaders to encourage community members to participate in waste segregation. This research could subsequently provide the basis for enhancement of 3R program in Malacca.
