Abstract

The increasing interest in theory and practice towards enhancing organizational performance via effective leadership approach has led to the introduction of leader-member exchange. Scholars in the field of leader-member exchange are now exploring how persistent challenges to manage employee in the organization can be overcome through the application of leader- member exchange practices. The current study therefore seeks to analyse the volume, increasing trend, worldwide distribution, key journals, pioneer authors and dominating nations in leader –member exchange. In achieving these aims, 557 documents from Scopus database ranging from 2012 to 2022 were analysed. To this end, six combinations of the words were merged together with logical operators, “TITLE-ABS-KEY (“leader member exchange”) OR TITLE-ABS- KEY (“LMX”) thus making the span broader. It is concluded from the current study that leader member exchange is still an under- developed topic in the management field with a significant amount of literature focusing on various professions. Finally, avenue for future studies is proposed to guide future researchers to expand current understandings on leader-member exchange. The current bibliometric analysis shall serve as a guidance for future research directions by providing a comprehensive overview on current scenarios of leader-member exchange.
