Abstract

Humanistic leadership is one of the leadership styles less talked about in research. It is a leadership style that emphasises a trait of human over profit to ensure the sustainability and longevity of a company. The style that focuses on humanistic value aligns with the sustainable development goal needs. The rising gig economy due to modern technology organisations has caused many welfare issues, especially in the outbound logistics food delivery industry, prompting the government to support and moderate the situation. The rising of these welfare issues is due to the new form of employment relationship in place of the traditional employer-employee relationship. The lack of digital platform leadership governance contributes significantly to the cause of p-hailers welfare and safety becoming unmanageable causing a high fatality accident rate. This paper proposes that the ideal leadership that should be adopted to improve the current situation is a humanistic style. Despite the high accident rate contributed by the p-hailers, the number of recruited p-hailers keeps increasing and continues to attract the current workforce working in this field. Thus, measuring their commitment to working in this field is necessary. It is suggested that the measurement of knowledge and application of humanistic leadership, government support and organisational commitment in the gig industries are necessary to ascertain the welfare of the p-hailers. The researchers determine the scale development as a research instrument for further research. An effort is made to create a questionnaire for these variables for future quantitative research. The actual scale performance needs to go through the appropriate tests to establish reliability and validity, as it may effectively ascertain the significant relationship among the variables. Digital platform organisations or stakeholders may use the verified valid scale to measure the variables within any other industry and subsequently derive root causes and action for improvement.
