Abstract

The escalating global challenges of climate change, resource depletion, and social inequality have intensified the imperative for businesses to adopt sustainability practices and responsible business conduct. This paper examines the multifaceted dimensions of promoting sustainability practices and responsible business in Indonesia, with particular emphasis on the role of corporate social responsibility, environmental, social, and governance frameworks, and stakeholder engagement in driving sustainable business transformation. Drawing upon contemporary literature from Scopus indexed journals and recent empirical data from global sustainability reports, this study synthesises current knowledge on sustainable business models, green innovation, circular economy principles, and the integration of sustainability into core business strategies within the Indonesian context. The findings reveal that organisations that proactively embed sustainability practices into their operations demonstrate enhanced resilience, improved financial performance, and stronger stakeholder relationships. Global data indicates that 91% of companies by market capitalisation disclosed sustainability-related information in 2024, with Southeast Asian countries showing significant progress, including Indonesia. The study identifies that regulatory frameworks, technological innovation, and stakeholder pressure serve as critical drivers of sustainability adoption. The paper concludes by proposing an integrated framework for promoting responsible business practices in Indonesia that aligns economic objectives with environmental stewardship and social equity, contributing to the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. This research provides valuable insights for policymakers, business leaders, and academics seeking to advance the sustainability agenda in Indonesia and other emerging economies.
