WHO ARE THE MONEY GAMES INVESTORS? A CASE STUDY IN MALAYSIA
Abstract
Money Games are not new to Malaysians. However, Malaysians do not seem to learn from the lessons as there is never ending emergence of new money games. Understanding who are the investors would be vital to work out suitable interference policies to disrupt such phenomenon. Hence, this study aims at understanding what kind of people invest in money games in Malaysia based on their motives, reasons for trust in the scheme and the investment decision making process. As the population of the respondents cannot be defined, the non-probability sampling: convenience sampling and snowball sampling were employed to recruit the respondents. 43 interviews were conducted. The interviews reveal that there are five types of people who are easily fell as prey for the money games in Malaysia, namely (1) The Early Birds; (2) The FOMO; (3) The Affinity Adherents; (4) The Desperate and (5) The Naive Dupes. It is our hope that the findings of this study will help the authorities in designing well-tailored preventive programs that target on specific groups.
